Intel to take advantage of UAE hunger for notebooks

For you my friend, half price!

INTEL RECKONS MOBILITY – of the mobile/laptop kind rather than flying carpets - is becoming increasingly popular in the United Arab Emirates.

Chipzilla carried out a survey which found almost 40 per cent of UAE residents used or owned more than one lappie, with 86 per cent admitting they used their machines daily.

A full third fessed up to using their laptops for at least five hours a day just for "entertainment and social networking." Sheeshkebab.

SpIntel reckon all this noodling about on the Interwibble in the UAE is all down to "advances in chip technology and expanding infrastructure."

Not missing a single opportunity for a product plug, Samir Al-Schamma, general manager for Intel in the GCC gushed "it remains key to address the top mobile computing needs, and this is where the new Intel Centrino 2 processor technology comes in."

The chip giant, of course, has recently unleashed its Centrino 2 Processor tech products for laptops, all underpinned by a plethora of shiny new Core2 Duo processors. And the company has warned another 250 wireless notebook PC designs could spring forth at any moment.

Residents of the UAE must be over the crescent moon, as another recent report – this time by IDC – notes laptop sales in the country now rank four to one in favour of notebooks.

Intel must be fervently hoping it can, inshallah, cash in on the trend. µ
