At a satanic $666+VAT, stone the crows

THE LAUNCH OF THE dual-PCB monster from Satan Clara is approaching pretty soon, with all the reviews going up on the June 5th, the birdies tweet.

After some sightings in Japan and Middle-East, the 7950GX2 also appears to be available in Europe. A local Croatian shop is selling MSI "NX7950GX2-T2D1GE, PCI-E, 1GB, DDR3" for 4812.12 in local currency, kunas. Since VAT in Croatia is a steep 22%, the price in dollars is $855. Minus the VAT, you get a nice round number of $666, but I guess it's just a coincidence.

The specs of the NX7950GX2 are more or less in line with all other launch 7950GXs. GPU clock is set at the default 500MHz, but MSI squeezed a bit more juice in order to get 1GB of GDDR-3 memory working at 1320MHz.

The 1320MHz clock brings the total bandwidth of the board to astonishing 84.48GB/s. Of course, we are talking about 42.4GB/s per PCB.

Anyway, the tech sounds great on paper, and we'll see how the competition will react when these babies arrive in retail next Monday. µ
