INTEL'S CONVENTIONAL focus on business machines could never really get it into the home theatre or gaming area.

So now, in the year in which winner of "Make Something Unreal" is currently on retail shelves, Intel running a neat contest.

The chipmaker has put $80,000 worth of prizes up for grabs in a contest to make a game demo that uses multi-threading.

The company will also promote your work in their marketing campaign for the whole Core 2 Duo thing - and that sort of thing usually ends up in some lucrative deal with the publisher.

There are two categories: Best Threaded Game and Best Game on the Go. Best threaded game of course, is the one that runs great on Conroe, while the Best Game on the Go should run great on Merom powered machines.

The first one won't look how much power you drain, second one will. So, some smart caching reqired, with everything kept in system memory. Procedural textures spring to my mind. µ
