RM launches £169 Asus PC

Cheaper than chips
Tuesday, 9 October 2007, 13:30

RM IS TO LAUNCH a £169 PC this coming Thursday. The Asus Minibook weighs less than 1kg and is about the same size as a box of tissues, the company says.

It doesn't say if that's ordinary tissues for girls or big man-size tissues for those with big hooters.

The Minibook has a 7-inch screen and thanks to its solid-state hard drive, it takes less than 15 seconds to boot up. It looks a lot like an Eee PC we've seen and we suspect it is something very similar indeed.

Eee-by-gum

It also sports an integrated web cam, microphone and speakers, with internal wireless g and an optional 3G module.

RM is aiming the device at students and schoolkids. It says it has been jointly developed by RM and Asustek.

Tim Pearson, CEO of RM said his firm is working Asustek to bring affordable, mobile computing to schools.

"We have a responsibility to ensure that all our children have access to the very best learning and the very best technology that is available," he is siad to have said. "By developing a student device that is in the same price range as an Ipod I believe we are getting there.” µ
