Encouraged human rights abuses

A HUMAN RIGHTS group has sued Yahoo for "assisting China's communist government with torture" by revealing information that led to the arrest of dissidents.

According to CNN, the World Organization for Human Rights USA wants unspecified damages and the search engine outfit to help secure the release of any detainees.

A spokesperson for the group Morton Sklar said that businesses that operate abroad need to be more aware of their responsibilities and should not be promoting and encouraging major human-rights abuses.

Yahoo turned over data on its users at the request of the Chinese government saying that its employees faced civil and criminal sanctions if they ignore local laws.
