Burned PowerBook pictures surface in New Zealand

Hot News indeed
Monday, 7 August 2006, 11:26
PICTURES OF yet another laptop catching fire have surfaced. This time it's an Apple PowerBook.

We found the pictures by pure chance while reading an unrelated but interesting entry about the original PalmOS graffiti at the blog by Brenda Wallace, apparently a computer geek and coder down in New Zealand.

Links to the pictures can be found here and here. The most impressive one can be found over here. The blogger writes: "DON'T LEAVE YOUR LAPTOP ON UNATTENDED, even if it's "sleeping" or not plugged in. This was our 6am wakeup call, with smoke filling the room".

Another flaming Mac

Interestingly, the fire seems to have started in the battery compartment, just like in previous instances. The blog entry is dated August 6, although the picture was uploaded to Flickr two days earlier. It's still pretty fresh news, this scribbler suspects. The previous recorded instance of a Mac catching fire was an iBook, over here. ยต
