Microsoft delays SQL Server 2008

Tradition upheld
Monday, 28 January 2008, 16:19

MICROSOFT has followed up its policy of delaying key products this time with Windows SQL Server.

The Vole promised man plus dog that SQL Server 2008 would be out in the second quarter of this year. Now it seems that it thinks SQL 2008 is still half-baked and will not be cooked until the third quarter.

In a Volish Bog, Microsoft tried to put the best spin on the situation claiming that over the coming months, customers and partners can look forward to significant “product milestones” for SQL Server. All very well but product milestones are not the real thing.

So the latest roadmap is that there will be a release candidate in Q2 calendar year 2008, with final Release to manufacturing of SQL Server 2008 expected in Q3.

No reason for the delay has been given although the bog mutters something about higher quality needed.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008’s predecessor SQL Server 2005 was delayed for nearly two years and it never did it any harm. µ
