THE ROUND ROCK, Texas master of just-in-time computer parts assembly, Dell claims it has "set a new standard for data center energy efficiency and flexibility" with its rollout of new Poweredge M-Series blade servers.

The company says its new line of M-Series blades "consumes up to 19 percent less power and achieves up to 25 percent better performance per watt than the HP BladeSystem c-Class1."

Dell also says its M-Series "consumes 12 percent less energy and achieves up to 28 percent better performance per watt" than IBM's BladeCenter H models.

The company's claims are supported by testing that was conducted last month by Principled Technologies, which Dell commissioned.

In addition, the PowerEdgetm M-Series blades are available in greener, lead-free configurations, Dell boasts. µ
