They appeared to be entirely Itanium free. Especially the one showing how Japan is setting the pace in the server market.
The slide employs data from IDC showing how well sales of IBM Power and Sun Sparc systems were doing in Japan compared to the rest of the world. But there were absolutely no figures for Itanium on the slide.
The INQ can fill you in, however, from the Intel press blurb. In Q2 2006 sales of Itanium systems generated $740 million which compares to around $1.7 billion for IBM Power and $1.648 billion for Sun Sparc based systems.
Not exactly impressive. What was truly mind-boggling, though, was a closing remark made by Kirk Skaugen, vp for the server platform group with Intel.
Apparently, the vast majority of Itanium systems are running one of two 'open' OS systems. Linux and Windows.
