I think it's inevitable we move to 64-bit architecture - Bob Colwell, former chief architect, Intel
These chips are curently scheduled for release in the second quarter, have 2 sets of 1MB cache, a front side bus of 800MHz, and use the LGA775 socket.
At launch they will be $528, $314, and $240 respectively.
Intel has also now committed to a late February launch of the 660 (3.6GHz), 650 (3.4GHz), 640 (3.2GHz) and 630 (3GHz) Pentium 4s. These processors come with 2MB of level two cache, have an 800MHz bus, support hyperthreading, and also use the 775 socket. The 670 will be introduced later, will clock at 3.8GHz, and priced at around $845 at introduction.
The chip giant will also introduce its 3.73GHz 2MB Extreme Edition in late February. This has a 1066MHz front side bus and is priced up at $1,000.
The introduction of the 6XX family will also see price cuts on Celeron desktop processors, with prices typically dropping on the 3XX range by between $5 to $10. µ
