Bluetooth turns airwaves blue

Swingers exchange business cards wirelessly
Sat Aug 30 2003, 11:43
WHILE British national tabloid, The Sun, has recently reported a rise in the British appetite for threesomes, rumours have reached The INQ's ears of a novel use for Bluetooth - the wireless cable replacement technology.

Apparently swingers have developed a penchant for sending out a 'business card' in the night clubs and bars they frequent. With a Bluetooth enabled handset it is possible to exchange a business card without going through the complex authorisation process required to set up a data connexion, for example.

All you need to do is to give your handset a suitable name - such as 'Swingerz'. Then you set the handset to search the room for other Bluetooth enabled devices. When your handset detects another handset labelled 'Up4it', you select your business card and send it out by Bluetooth.

All the recipient has to do is press Yes when his or her handset announces "Accept business card from Swingerz Y/N?" Obviously the business card contains more information than just a phone number. With the latest cameraphones you can easily attach a suitable picture to the business card.

If the recipient is interested, it isn't too difficult to identify which couple in the room actually sent it. According to our source, it takes the embarrassment out of approaching a innocent couple who might have just simply wandered into the bar by chance. ยต
