BIOSmagazine fires still some more reviews at us. From Etymotic research comes the isolator Stereo Earbuds which like many parts promises a lot and delivers little. Noise isolation is different from noise cancellation though and I doubt that it will be useful on the tube. They also tested the new Orange SPV M2000 Wifi Enabled PDA cum phone. It has a slide down keyboard and supports VOIP plus it integrates Windows 2003 mobile. Treo has some competition to fight with. Also at £199 with a contract it is far from being overtly expensive.
PCMagazine reviews five desktops which they claim to be divine. The Dell Dimension XPS Gen 5 - a monstruous powerhouse with a PEE 840 coupled with a X850XT PE, the impressive Sony VAIO V520G all in one machine, the Apple iMac G5 and the iMini - both from the Apple stable and lastly the Emachine T6212 which is a low budget system well worth its dollar. Good deals do not have to be expensive as you will see. They have another review of the PalmOne Lifedrive which seems to be a glorified mix between a PDA and a PMP. It comes with a huge 3.8-inch TFT screen, a correct price - $499 and a huge 4GB storage. It's like having the iPod crossed with a Tungsten.
Firingsquad wants you to check those two reviews. The first one is the Acer Travelmate 8100 laptop which comes with a Radeon X700 mobility inside, the successor to the widely popular Mobility R9700. The laptop comes with a PM 2.13GHz, 1GB memory, a huge hard disk and a DVD writer. Not to mention the WSXGA+ widescreen and a media card reader. The second review is the soon-to-become-former-KOTR BFG Geforce 6800 Ultra OC 512MB review. Like the not so old 5950 Ultra, this one will soon go to the scrapyard. For now though, it is the fastest card that money can buy, especially in SLI. Same old scenario, nVidia eats ATI for lunch in DOOM and the opposite happens in HL2. $884 for a single card is twice what you'd pay for a normal 6800 Ultra Card. Thumbs down.
Tweaktown gets the latest ATI Catalyst 5.5 scrutinized and dissected in this article. They have their eyes set on the forthcoming 5.6. Less software issues than with 5.4 but then, not much peformance improvements as well. Anyway, it doesn't cost a single pence to upgrade your catalyst.
Sysopt checks the Seagate 400GB Barracuda 7200.8 monster hard disk. It has an 8MB cache, NCQ technology within and a SATA interface. It is quite cheap and very very quick. A 16MB version of this baby in RAID-0 would be a real killer. µ
