Secret Dell PDA docs exposed

$199 device set to shake up market
Wed Oct 09 2002, 13:03
FRENCH WEBSITE, PDAFrance.com, invoked the wrath of mighty Dell by publishing some of the direct seller's internal documents on its pages.

The pages have since been pulled, but details of Dell's upcoming PDA leaked to add to what we already new and published over here.

According to the documents, Dell's hand jobby will run Microsoft's Pocket PC operating system on Intel 300MHz and 400MHz Xscale processors. And, having been trounced, Dell has confirmed the authenticity of the documents, adding that the 300MHz version will cost just $199 while the 400MHz incarnation will be priced at $299, when launched in the US.

Dell already offers PDAs from the likes of Palm and Sony, but its own-badged offering will under cut these in price by quite some margin.

The company has not confirmed a launch date for either product although sources suggest some time this autumn is not inconceivable. The company is at least expected to unveil the products at this year's Comdex show in November, where it may also show a Tablet PC running Windows XP. ยต
