Samsung starts shipping hybrid hard drive

Six of one, half a dozen of t'other
Wednesday, 7 March 2007, 09:07
KOREAN FIRM Samsung said it has started selling a hybrid hard drive to its customers.

The MH80 series comes in 80GB, 120GB and 180GB sizes. The 2.5-inch drive has 128 or 256MB of flash memory and combines magnetic optical characteristics. Samsung claims it will give faster boot and resume times, better reliability and increased battery life.

It claims the drive will eat between 70 to 90 per cent less power than non hybrid drives and that extends battery life by 30 minutes. The one bit of information Samsung does not provide is the price premium. µ
