Just under 80 per cent of all tested machines were below the mark for Microsoft's recommended requirements for Vista. For example, only 30 per cent of all the work computers that were looked at matched Microsoft's recommended figure of 1GB of RAM.
Of the 145,000 work desktops and laptops tested, around 70 per cent did not have the required RAM, 62.4 per cent did not have the required 40GB hard drive and just under 80 per cent did not have at least one of the Vista requirements.
Plenty of evaluated machines did not even match Vista's minimum requirements, which would only run Vista at a sloth-like speed: 25 per cent did not have the required 512 MB of RAM, and 24 per cent didn't have the 15 GB of free hard drive space.
Marketing officer for Everdream, Ed Mueller is not optimistic about Vista in the workplace: "The costs of getting computers into compliance with Microsoft's requirements will likely be a huge obstacle to Vista adoption, especially for small and mid-sized companies," he warned. ยต
