The only justice in the world is we're all going to die - Chicago savant
THE US IS making unreasonable demands for yet more personal information about airline passengers, the Europeans said yesterday.
It is only six months since a long disagreement between the US Department of Homeland Security and European privacy wonks was settled in a compromise deal that tempered the US' insatiable hunger for data.
Jonathan Faull, director general of the European Commission's justice directorate, said in a technical briefing about the EU's own border defences that the US was going "too far".
"The text is unacceptable. It's just way beyond anything that can be done," he said in Brussels reports.
The last spat was exacerbated by the Usonian habit of settling its bilateral arrangements unilaterally. It sent a memo telling the EU how their arrangement over the exchange of passenger name records (PNR) would operate.
This time appeared to be no different, except that the US has bypassed Brussels altogether and sent its memo demanding more data direct to European member states.
It demanded passenger data about people who flew in "airplanes" through US airspace to go with the data it already collects about people who land there. It also wanted security staff to patrol on board transatlantic flights.
Faull said he was not happy that the US was trying to sideline Brussels. But it is not surprise after the hard ball the EC appeared to play in negotiations last year. The US is also pursuing bilateral talks over its plan for an allied border security system.
He delivered the news while detailing plans proposed by his department yesterday to police EU borders with robot airdrone guards, among other things, like collecting PNR data about people travelling to Europe.
Faull's briefing can be watched online here. µ
I did not vote for this, approve of it, nor do I think it is helping the US gather intelligence.

This is unchecked power running loose in the US government.

Please help us US citizens tell the powers that be that nobody wants this... ever!
I know its easier said than done, but we should resolve not to visit their shores in droves till the message is driven home, 'enough of this peronia' we should choose to spend our hard erned €'s in a country that is less inclined to use post 9/11 to snoop & undermine our human rights that took years to win.
Thanks

Resolve? Please don't make laugh.......

As an American who lived and traveled in Europe, keep your heads stuck in the sand if you want too.
Spain was politically derailed by Jihadis's already, France is gaining momentum as it slides towards Muslim dhimmism, and Britain has had its own mini-9/11, not too mention the head of the Church of England supporting the inclusion of Sharia law in GB.

Europeans persist in believing that if they look the other way, and put their fingers in the ears, they can somehow avoid the inevitable.

Face it, if you haven't done anything wrong, just what exactly is the matter with the request? What are you really afraid of?
Privacy?
From someone from a nation with CCTV's in every corner, and in the WC, thats rather laughable.

It's their country and their airspace. If they demand that everyone who entered either could juggle seven eggs whilst blindfolded they could. What's the problem?
I had other plans but I can see myself in some hopefully fictional future defecting to a foreign country to fight my own totalitarian government. Sigh.
Simply boycott the USA and be done with it's demands.
Heck they fear anybody, has been this way ever since the nuclear race started.
They didn't even share they technology back then with "allies".
They don't consider allies as friends, they never did.
Only to use them for their own purpose.
Let me also remind you that THEY are the only ones that ever used atomic-bombs!!!!
Nobody else did, but they find that they have the right to have them, but other nations are a thread?
BTW, who brought the cold-war on us?
Who invented Osama?
Who invented the Taliban?
Who installed Saddam Houssein?
Who changed Iran to an Islamic state?
Who did all this and more?

We should be scared of the USA, not for anybody else.
If you dont want to come to the USA thats really your choice.

My government did not ask me about this either, I did not vote to put it into place. Separate the people from the govt, ok?

But as I recall, it was England/Europe that created the present day middle east without regard to the historical differences and people. Thats the root cause of the current trouble. IRAQ is a European creation with countries like France just stirring the pot. Yes its your backyard.

The cold war was a European issue that again we were asked to help on. It was our efforts that helped to end that horror.

Yugoslavia - another European problem.

It does seem that Europeans do try to avoid dealing with their issues by blaming others.

The US does get a lot of flack as we do fix these things. No one likes the winning team.

Quit tolerating the little dictators. Dictators do not have an inherent right to rule countries.

Enough of this - Im going to play a PC game....
'Britain has had its own mini-9/11'

Laughable and also angering comment from a typical uninformed yank listening to the political propaganda of its own country.

It really pi@#es me off that you guys think you had the worst terrorist disaster ever, Britain has been dealing with terrorists for decades ever heard of the IRA, those guys blew up a large area of manchester city centre in 1996, nail bombed pubs with men, women and children in them, executed civilians and their families and terrorised London, ever hear of the Lockerbie air disaster? also caused by guys YOUR government funded when you are meant to be our allies.

Now I like and know many US citizens but your Government is overstepping its mark again, it will fail and fall 'The greatest country in the world' has become what all great civilisations and imperialistic empires did, internally corrupt and decaying from the inside out, like a bad tooth it needs to be pulled, or overstretched and weak. Its becoming more and more apparent we don't need the US anymore, $ is falling whilst the Euro gets higher and more people switch to trade in it.

the world has had enough of your governments bullcrap and bullying tactics, its time for you to take the power back and become the land of the free again not the closely monitored paranoid wimps you are now, Russia has more freedom and civil liberty than the US.

The President is their to represent YOU and only YOU can change that.

Bring back your glory, don't be shunned everywhere you go for being American STAND UP FOR YOURSELVES.

rant over.
