EU boffins give the thumbs up to Open Sauce

Makes staff feel cheap, but they love it

THE EU HAS just compiled a definitive report on the effects of an outfit going Open Sauce and it is bad news for Microsoft.

The data, which was based on six organisations in different EU countries, shows that it is much cheaper in the long term to go for Open Sauce.

Initially it might cost organisations a bit extra to roll out. The report says that these costs are temporary and can be budgeted for in the first year. This cost is mostly to do with training. Productivity of employees using OpenOffice and Vole Office indicate that the differences between the two packages does not slow any work down.

The report, which can be found in a pdf here, said that companies should think when they are thinking of buying or upgrading proprietary software, they should be aware that there is open source software that can do the same thing much cheaper.

In fact the only downside the report found was that the use of Open Sauce software makes staff feel undervalued because the think their organisation uses cheap software. This problem can be over come with proper training and lots of reassuring hugs, the report says. Well actually we made the last bit up. µ
