MICROSOFT HAS found its first US customer for its Windows Mobile 6 software.

T-Mobile USA will today launch the first mobile with the software on board.

The phone, dubbed T-Mobile Wing, will cost $299 with a two-year contract and runs Windows Mobile 6, "smart" phone software.

The software, which can handle e-mail, documents and Web browsing in addition to phone calls, is Vole's go at taking on the likes of Blackberry, Palm and Apple's Iphone. It lets users read e-mail with embedded images and graphics, and supports Window's Live's instant messaging program and Web search.

The Wing has a 40-key keyboard that slides out from underneath the 2.8-inch touchscreen and looks like a smaller version of the discontinued T-Mobile MDA.
