Nokia launches three emerging world phones

Rubberised, naturally
Monday, 7 August 2006, 06:13
RATHER THAN merely paying lip service to cracking the mobile market in emerging countries, Nokia has just launched three new handsets aimed specifically for continents such as India and Africa.

Speaking in Nairobi, Timo Toikkanen the senior vp for Middle East and Africa with Nokia said, “Each of the three models we have introduced today adheres to [our] core philosophy of offering iconic designs, a well-balanced range of features and even special finishes like rubberised paint to combat dust and improve grip.”

The three products include the Nokia 1112, Nokia 2310 and Nokia 2610 which are all expected to tart shipping in Q3 2006.

"Since Nokia introduced the affordable 1100 series handsets, the company has managed sell over 100 million units globally," commented Toikkanen.

In India, the street price for the Nokia 2310 is expected to be around Rs 3,550 ($76) and Rs 4,200 ($90) for the Nokia 2610.

Which is jolly close to the components bill - making margins wafer thin. ยต
