Brazil keeps Cisco suspects in gaol

A JUDGE in Brazil remanded six people suspected of tax fraud on imports of Cisco gear back into temporary custody Friday,

Brazilian police and revenue agents had rounded up 40 suspects on October 16 after a two year investigation, the Financial Times reports.. They are accused of having evaded duties and other taxes on imports of Cisco networking kit by routing it through a complex web of real and phantom companies.

Those arrested included four Cisco executives in Brazil, numerous employees of Cisco's main distributor in Brazil and other resellers, and customs agents and tax inspectors.

Three more individuals allegedly involved in the scheme were also imprisoned Friday. Among those still held by Brazilian authorities is the former president of Cisco in Brazil. µ
