AMD moves up in semiconductor league table

But CPU market flat in 2007
Wednesday, 22 August 2007, 15:39
SALES OF microprocessors will be flat this year, DRAM and NAND are down, and phones ain't what they used to be, said IDC.

But the market research firm predicts better times ahead in 2007, said Gopal Chauhan, worldwide semi programme manager at IDC.

Oversupply in the first half of 2007 has led to a situation where he predicts growth will be 4.8 per cent this year, compared to 8.6 per cent last year. He's predicting growth of 8.1 per cent for 2008 because of increased demand in home electronics and from emerging markets.

IDC issued its table for the top 10 vendors in 2006, and said Intel, Samsung and TI retaining their positions. AMD moved from number 10 to number eight in 2006.

Here's the IDC table below - worldwide semiconductor revenues in millions of dollars. Check out Hynix and AMD - the latter on a staggering 92 per cent growth rate. We know it won't be looking that way in 2007. µ
