When Newegg's top ten seller page was configured to show just processors, the 805 dual core chip was placed at number three, which made it Newegg's top selling dual-core device.
Newegg's top-ten seller page also revealed that seven of the top sellers were AMD processors. The 64-bit capable AMD Sempron 2800+ was the number-one seller and the Athlon 64 3000+ was close on its tail at number two. AMD had three dual core chips to Intel's two represented. So AMD's overall processor position at Newegg is still very strong.
Tiger Direct's top ten leader board for its chips showed the 805 at number ten. Four AMD dual core chips were in front.
This must make Intel happy as it's now shipping the 805 chip via the channel in volume. But because of its cheapness, the bean counters at Intel can't be too happy with the revenue being generated, especially when it's time to pay off those hefty distributor rebates.
One would think that AMD must be a little concerned about this state of affairs. The chip maker could offer a dual core device at a similar price. It hasn't. So for the foreseeable future, the dual-core bargain basement chip to buy will be from Intel. µ
