Apple Ipod is "Shonky"

Wins award for it
Friday, 20 October 2006, 10:24
SUPER SOARAWAY Apple icon gizmo, the Ipod, has been dubbed 'Shonky' by an Aussie magazine.

Every year Choice magazine gives out awards for the dodgiest products on the market. This year the iPod was in the top ten, facing stiff competition from "miracle" magnetic laundry balls, meat pies with barely any meat and a Gin and tonic product with no gin.

According to the Herald Sun, the iPod was Shonky because of Apple's repair and warranty service. Choice magazine readers complained about cracked screens, faulty batteries and problems with sound reproduction.

However Apple ignored Aussie fair trading laws and refused to allow retailers to handle complaints under warranty, despite this being an obligation under the fair trading laws.

The iPod was the most complained about consumer item in the state of Victoria, with more than 40 complaints made to Consumer Affairs last year.
