IN THE GOOD OLD tradition of British journalism the INQUIRER starts a crusade today.
It's a noble venture, with the aim of bringing true innovation and customer satisfaction to PC users everywhere.
We believe that Intel should release its Pentium M microprocessors, which have remarkable heat dissipation characteristics, don't rely on Megahurts Madness, and which run as cool as a mountain stream, as well as having massive cache, as a desktop processor.
Intel's already told its manufacturers that the Pentium Ms will be used in "blade" server configurations and of course will feature in cool running laptops bearing the Centrino kite mark.
But the INQUIRER is starting a crusade for Intel to start enabling this microprocessor to run in desktops too. It's got remarkable characteristics, won't require elaborate heatsinks, only needs a slight modification to motherboard design, and is in short, the acme of Intel CPUs.
When it's released in a 90 nanometer process early next year and with 2MB of on-die cache, it's going to be even better. So come on Intel, get with the plan! You know it makes sense and you'll sell gazillions of them! µ
