Things get tricky online
Wednesday, 13 September 2006, 21:04
A CASE has arisen in a Texas district court alleging Microsoft breached patents over multiplayer games this week.

Delaware plaintiff Paltalk Holdings Inc alleges Microsoft has breached its patents relating to methods and systems for communicating over networks.

It said in its filing this week that "multiplayer games conducted over wide area networks generally involve difficult technical issues" because all players need to see the same place at the same time.

Patent number 5,822,523 has been breached by Microsoft, Paltalk alleges. This patent is called "Server Group messaging for interactive applications".

Paltalk wants damages to be awarded and the usual other penalties. The deposition is here. ยต
