Are Catalyst drivers damaging monitors? It seems not

Update Web sites report so, ATI says not

UPDATE 10:33 BST While ATI hasn't yet got back to us, a reader says that ATI has scotched these claims. On Rage3D, last Thursday, Terry Makedon from ATI is quoted as saying that it doesn't see any big temperature increases on the cards themselves, plus the ones it does see are well within the safety ranges. ATI also says there that it's spent a considerable period of time seeing if it could reproduce the problem, but hasn't managed to do that. He also adds that ATI's had no customer support reports of monitors dying.

SEVERAL SPECIALIST graphics site are reporting that the Catalyst 3.8 drivers are damaging monitors, although so far ATI hasn't commented on the claims.

Those claims started to emerge last week. There's a thread on Rage 3D, for example, which appears to blame the Catalyst drivers for a monitor problem.

But nvnews.net, which you can find here, points to a thread at Short Media which claims that a large number of monitors have been damaged, and currently the Cat drivers are being held responsible.

We'll contact ATI to see if it has a line on this one, this morning. ยต
