Japanese still interested in Intel's Itanic

Hush money comes into play
Thu Jun 29 2006, 09:58
REMEMBER THE STORY about Intel trying to flog off Itanic to a group of Japanese companies? Some may have doubted it, but more information has come to light on the subject recently.

There are three companies in the consortium, and it doesn't take a genius to figure them out. Either way, they are keeping it quiet because of the usual suspect, money. We are told that there are large payments flowing between HP and Intel at certain milestones, and they are big enough to make Intel nervous about mucking with the schedule.

If the deal gets done, it will be after the next milestone, and not a minute before the cheque clears. Intel may be desperate to rid it itself of this 'golden opportunity', but it isn't totally stupid. ยต
