Intel dumps own Rambus mobos, tweaks price schedule

Clears the desks for autumn intros
Mon Aug 26 2002, 20:03
AN INTEL MEMORANDUM which has fallen into our hands shows that while some prices were adjusted over the weekend, as we've noted, others will come again on September 1st, as originally reported.

Intel brought forward the introduction of its Pentium 4/2.80GHz processor to launch today, which has to be seen as a reaction to AMD introductions last week. It was originally going to be launched early September, as well.

But Intel is also discontinuing some of its own boxed Rambus motherboards, as detailed below.

Resellers and distributors will be pulling their hair out, but that's nothing new.

815 boxed boards are also for the chop - not a huge surprise here.

It is also withdrawing other products in preparation for the introduction of new chipsets, and as shown below, is providing support for Celeron "P4/400" units.
