Apple TV hacked already

Hardware Roundup Boy Wonder tests the unmodified one
Monday, 26 March 2007, 18:14
IT DOES NOT take long for someone to hack something these days. Enthusiasts from Something Awful forum were annoyed by the general lack of third party movie support for Apple's latest product, Apple TV - and went on to create something useful with it. Awkward and Sabretooth modified Apple's little box and got it working with Xvid files with no problems.

If this mod interests you, first thing you should do is read how the new Apple TV looks from inside and after that, you could take a look what Apple TV can and can't do.

On the other hand, RBmods tested a 2.1 speaker set that should bring some noise to the computer experience, yet stay on the budget. We haven't heard from Titan in ages, and now we see a review of its speaker set.

It seems that Peltier effect and T.E.C. (Thermo-Electric Cooling) is coming into the spotlight, first with lads from CoolIT Systems, then Sparkle came into the frame with the Calibre series of graphics cards, and now Ultra joining in with a spankin' new CPU cooler sporting a TEC element on it.

Phoronix tested Tyan's FlexATX/microATX motherboard, based on P965 Northbridge and ICH8 Southbridge chips. This is your typical workstation in a small package solution, so if you're considering nice and stable setup for work or for gaming, this just might be the ticket to ride.

PureOverclock tested the Seasonic's power supply named M12 700W. Even though the company is more known as manufacturer of excellent Corsair PSUs, Seasonic also has something to offer.

However, for a real roundup of power supplies, take a look at what Canucks from the world of Hardware tested. A Red Bull-addicted member of the site tested six value-targeted power supplies and founded that Mushkin's one provided most bang for the buck.

Zinoberrot from AOAForums tested NZXT Nemesis Elite computer case. With the names of computer products looking more and more like enemies from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we are expecting that next wave of computer cases comes with names Shredder and Splinter.

Enermax didn't decided to do a TMNT-named case, but rather a Stargate-with-German-Translation inspired name for their latest case - Enermax Uber Chakra ATX Chassis.

To end, we advise you to go and read motormouth Andrzej's column over at Hardware.Info. To stay at a four or five star Marriott and having to pay an arm and a leg for the Internet connection is just a rip-off. But then again, the more expensive the hotel teh greater the rip-off. "Since when did broadband become less of a ‘necessity' to a traveller than a TV, bath or shower?" asks Andrzej.
