YANGON BOGGERS are bypassing Internet censors to support mounting anti-government protests, Yahoo News reports.
The military junta that governs Myanmar blocks most websites that show news about the country, including web-based email services. But an Internet savvy horde of young techies is outsmarting the government's web filters and posting pictures, videos and news reports about anti-government protests in near real time.
Some of the boggers' content has been captured by mainstream news services, including photos of Aung Kyi, Myanmar's rallying point for democracy who is still detained under house arrest by the ruling junta.
The boggers are mostly young university students in Yangon. Sein Win, managing editor of the India based dissidents newspaper Mizzima News, said "We have many volunteers in Yangon. They are mostly university students and they keep sending us messages, pictures and video clips about the demonstrations."
Mass protests against the rule of the military junta have steadily picked up popular steam in Myanmar ever since breaking out on August 19. Recent news is that tens of thousands are protesting against the government daily. ยต
