Sony upgrades PlayStation 2

Better DVD playback, less noisy, but only in Japan so far

POPULAR GAMES CONSOLE the Sony PlayStation 2 will be revamped in mid-May, but so far only in Japan.

That's according to Eurogamer.net, which says the refreshed model will be released on the 15th and sell for ¥25,000.

The web site said that Sony will greatly improve DVD playback, and is also set to introduce better progressive scan support.

And the firm will create a better design which doesn't whirr quite as much as before, with Sony also releasing a new DVD remote control.
