Firm turns PS3 into print server

GERMAN FIRM HELIOS said it is offering a a free download of its modified Yellow Dog Linux (YDL) distribution to use on Sony's PlayStation as a test-drive server.

The HELIOS simplified YDL distribution comes provides a Linux server OS complete with DHCP network settings, support for Java 1.5 and AppleTalk enhanced kernel.

Dr John Yardley, MD of HELIOS distributor JPY Plc, said "It might seem like a crazy idea, but pound for pound the PS3 offers amazing power. I expect plenty of Linux enthusiasts will find good uses for the installation"
