AS EXPECTED, Intel slashed the price of its new four-way core chips, yesterday.

The Core 2 Duo E4500 2.20 GHz with 2MB 800 Mhz FSB will go on sale for $133 while the E4400 will sell for $113. Which is drop of about $20.

The best deals are in the Core 2 Quad range where the QZ6800 2.93 Ghz Core 2 Quad, 1066 Mhz FSB drops to $999. The Q6700 2.66 Ghz version will now cost $530 and the Q6600 2.40 Ghz version will be $266. In the case of the Q6600 this means cutting the price in half making the chip the only sub-$300 quad-core processor on the market.

The price cuts are expected to provide a boost to hardware sales which have been in the doledrums waiting for the cuts to take place.
