WHAT'S A GAMER to do? Asks a Hardware Anal-ist. Hot new game Crysis is available in the US, but Europe is left to wait. And when it gets here, it'll be twice the price. Piracy is the only answer, he figures.
XBit Lab rats fiddle with a Foxconn Mars Mainboard on Intel P35 Express Chipset here.
They also got their paws on nine power supply units from Toppower. These range from between 500W and 800W in managed power.
ChileHardware puts a Core 2 Extreme QX6950, the "Yorkfield processor based on the new 45nm Penryn family", through its paces over here, in Spanish. And here, in Googlish.
An Asus EN8600GT Silent/HTDP/512M Graphics Card entertains the devout at Silentpcreview.com. Is the passive cooling good enough for a hot, low airflow, silent system, they wonder.
TechwareLabs also has a fiddle with a 45nm Intel Penryn processor. Is this single processor faster than a pair of dual Xeon 5150s, they wonder. Find out here.
The hardware logicians find the wireless hard disk, the AirLive WMU-6500FS a suprisingly versatile box.
Meanwhile, posh new AMD Zone is worth a wibble over just to admire its new curves. Here's the news that a Dual Core Athlon drops below $50. µ
It seems to me that practically EVERYTHING is more expensive in Europe, despite the US dollar being so weak right now. Games are more expensive, PC hardware is more expensive when you convert to US dollars... What the fsck? I had to pay like $8 US for a beer in London in May. This is ridiculous.
Ironic indeed, you can get it from etailers at about £26 delivered, which less tax should equate to about 45.5 USD. Oh, when will the games industry adopt Radiohead approach and allow us to judge how much it's worth to play their titles?
Considering average incomes tend to be slightly higher in the US than most of Europe at best (significantly higher when you factor in Eastern Europe) , i'm somewhat skeptical.
Its not just the current exchange rate, its always been this way.
MLS I think you have missed the point somewhere. If a bank can make it's domestic employees redundant and ship it's call centre to india because labour is cheaper. Why can't us ordinary consumers buy things from other markets if it's cheaper?

It seems that globalisation is being used by corporations to make money but it doesn't work the other way.
why didnt the guy just use an anonymous proxy. ^^
I do believe that cars are very well priced in Europe. Not too mention the better cars, which most people want to drive, which is an European car! Well at least you have cars over them yanks
MLS so you think that because we maybe earn more then an equivalent American we should definitely pay more???

I dont think so!

In a bricks and mortar shop where the employees also get paid more then yes it will be a little more expensive, (our shop workers and running costs dont total the equivalent of $30 a game more then an American equivalent),in the case of an online distro it should cost the same globally.

As for COD4 specifically I happen to know that Activision have an Office in Dublin so its not anything to do with where its publisher is.

The whole thing is that europeans get ripped off constantly by American companies. Even when your talking about electronics sold in Europe, assembled in Europe, made of parts from China and Japan and owned by American companies, we pay more then the bits we make that are that are shipped back over to the states.
think it was about on these parts too... cod 4 is $79 + tax for euros, $49 + tax for americans.

tis ironic, that at $79 + tax i can go into a shop and pick up the actual disks for less.
I just wanted to say that I wholeheartedly agree with Sander here, and I think EA should listen to what he's got to say.
I'm so sick of hearing people from Europe complain about being 'ripped off' due to the exchange rate on the USD.

Did you ever think that you probably earn the same NOMINAL wage that an American would in your position? Thus, you are technically earning 60% more in USD. It follows that you are forfeiting the same portion of your wage to purchase the item, therefore the cost is THE SAME.

No, there couldn't be real economic reasons why prices are not set based on the exchange rate in every other country... it is just a big conspiracy to rip off people in Europe. Right.
