Open Source fund loses money source

Linux Fund cardholders received official notice from the Bank of America recently that the program is being discontinued.

The letter says that the Linux Fund recently agreed to discontinue the existing credit card programme after June 30, 2007.

According to a Linux community bog, David Mandel, executive director of LinuxFund.org said there was no alternative to the Linux Fund credit card. It is is much more difficult to set up a programme like the Linux Fund card than it was in 1999 when we started the program, he said.

LinuxFund was relaunched in 2005, and channeled funds into projects such as Blender, Debian Linux, Gentoo, and OpenSSH.

Mandel said that the outfit would continue to run and was looking at different funding sources.
