Flatpack phones coming to an Ikea near you

Swedish piggy back
Mon Aug 04 2008, 11:16

SWEDISH FURNITURE FLOGGER Ikea becomes the latest company to offer a mobile phone service to its customers.

From Friday, members of Ikea's loyalty scheme will be able to sign up for the pay-as-you-go service.

The company which has massive retail outlets all over the world is teaming up with German network giant T-Mobile for this piggy-back deal which is expected to bring in a huge revenue for the partnership, as Ikea's loyalty scheme has over 1.4m members.

The retailer is mirroring the theme of simplicity in this new deal - the arrangement will involve no fixed monthly payments and will be based on an “every penny counts” marketing push.

It’s not only the customers who will benefit from this latest idea, all 9,500 Ikea staff in Britain will also be presented with a handset and a 'generous' fivers worth of call-time – lucky them. µ
