ATI completely rewriting OGL driver

New hope for Fire GL
Thu Jul 29 2004, 15:26
WE'VE HEARD twice times now that ATI wants to try to improve its Open GL performance. it is aware of the fact that Nvidia rules the Open GL market especially the most significant part of this market, workstations.

ATI knows it has to do something about its Fire GL drivers and that Nvidia is way ahead. It made a drastic and extremely unpopular move when it shut its Fire GL office and decided to relocate this operation back to North America. All for profit and margins.

It claimed then that it wanted its software and hardware team to work side by side.

ATI has to make a radical move and to finally try to match Nvidia in this market as games like Doom 3 are using this API will certainly benefit from this new driver.

We are told that the driver won't be finished that soon but it is working hard to have it finished as soon as possible. ยต
