AMD falls into bed in Old Taipei

Love-in in signage in casino-embedded space

CHIP FIRM Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) said it introduced a set of energy efficient chipolatas for its embedded "roadmap". And it announced it at an embedded conference in Taipei, of all places.

For those of you who don’t know, the embedded market is worth a lot of dosh. No one cares whether you are running Intel or AMD inside – a bit like the days when no-one cared if you had a Ferodo sparkplug or not.

Said AMD, rather egregiously: “AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core processors TL-56 and TL-62 can deliver the exceptional leading edge 64-bit application performance and low power requested by designers in the industrial control digital signage and point-of-sale embedded markets.”

What can this mean? Ah.

It means that the energy efficient Sempr0n 3700+ and 2100+ will run cooler. There’s also a new chipset and, said the AMD spinner: “There is currently strong demand for AMD technology in the digital signage, casino gaming and point-of-sale.”

Why didn’t you say so up at the top of the press release rather than fill it with fluff? Zzzzzzz. µ
