Intel steers prices on steady course

Ship Ahoy at quarter four o'clock

CHANNEL ROADMAPS seen by the INQ appear to show that Intel hopes now to hold a lot of CPU prices steady until the fourth quarter, apart from some minor price adjustments on the 26th of this month.

The man in the Crow's Nest bellows down that on the 26th Intel will usher in the excitingly named the Pentium Dual Core processor, the E2180, a 2GHz 1MB 800MHz at $87.

The last big price cuts Intel made was on the 22nd of July last.

In early September, some cheapo Celerons are coming along but it is reserving a whole heap of launches in the Q4 with product codes so secret it hasn't even told its distributors yet.

These are Xeons - the X5460 and family in both active and passive formations, each with 12MB of cache and speeds ranging from 2.50GHz up to 3.16GHz - with 1333MHz buses. The high end chip has a channel price of $1,164.

Avast, me hearties! We are really looking forward to Intel simplifying its product codes so that we don't feel like we're deciphering the Lost Language of Old Satan Clara. µ
