Press releases fly in Intel-AMD 64-bit battle

Tweedledum-and-tweedledee-at-each-other-apos-s-throats-as-alice-looks-on--agog A VERITABLE BLIZZARD of press releases is snowing down on hapless hacks as PR departments at Intel and AMD try and top dog each other on wins for their 64-bit server chips.

No sooner do you get a mail from Intel saying that it's convinced Bank Lippo in Indonesia to use Itanium 2 IBM servers, than another one comes from AMD saying it's sold another Opteron cluster to Daimler Chrysler.

Perhaps it's time to dig ourselves out of the snow drift and tot up which firm's winning in this game of tit-for-tat.

Every day, in every way, we're sure both PR departments pick'emselves up and decide to send another press release out about a server win story.

Yes. It's what we call a Tweedledee-Tweedledum situation. But don't stop sending the releases chaps. Otherwise, what the heck would we have to write about? ยต

* WHAT DID WE say? Here's another Opteron cluster win from AMD today. It's sold the University of Zurich 522 Opteron 244s for a cluster to assist medical research.
