Nintendo offers raincheque on Wii

Take your money but no Wii
Mon Dec 17 2007, 07:45

IT IS Wii tomorrow, Wii yesterday but no Wii today as far as Nintendo is concerned.

In a bid to appease furious shoppers cross that Nintendo was unable to get enough consoles into the shops in time for Christmas, the company has come up with a cunning plan.

If you give Nintendo money for the product, it will not give you a Wii. Instead it will give you a certificate promising you a Wii sometime in January.

The deal is limited to Gamestop, and Nintendo actually expects punters to hand over cash on a promise. It means on New Year's Day punters will be able to look at their certificate instead of drunkenly play a few games with friends and family.

It is a brave thing to do in the middle of a console war to offer a piece of paper that promises peace in our time. We are sure Nintendo knows what it is doing. After all punters can trust a company that forgot that Christmas was coming at the end of the year.

what?

Up until a couple weeks ago you could always find one if not several at my local Walmart.....I have been thinking to myself I should have bought a few and done the ebay thing this year. Not sure why they are so hard to find, of course, where I live people get "tags" for their homes and drive around in 4x4 trucks with several rifles in the back window, so maybe it's that all 5 geeks in my area already have their Wii.....besides, everyone I know who got one last year don't even play it now....

@Svamp

erm your comment is quite contradictory
You say its like preordering and people "fall" for it all the time.

But if you preordered the wii before it came out then you would not have to wait for months and search high and low for one.

Do you know see why your comment makes no sense?

As I see it

Pretty much like preordering. People fall for it all the time. I'm sure mum's little kid will be happier to get a certificate than nothing at all.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
