Vmware launches slimmed down hypervisor

Vmworld Europe Can't be too rich or too thin
Tuesday, 26 February 2008, 09:38

VMWARE'S BIG NEWS from the South of France is the launch of its ESX 3i hypervisor. The add-on is 32MB of software which is embedded in X86 servers and has the likes of IBM, HP and Dell all excited.

Given its footprint ESX 3i is what’s being called thin virtualisation by Vmware or out of the box virtualisation by the kit makers.

Server makers IBM, Dell and HP queued up to praise ESX3i at the first Vmworld conference in Cannes today. HP will ship 10 server models with ESX3i at the end of March and IBM, Dell and Fujitsu Siemens won’t be far behind. µ

and ESX3i changes quite a few things with how the drivers talk to ESX.

End of march ok.... no wonder i don't see anyone during the week they are all coding the new driver.
