THE BRITISH Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) has built a large cluster from Linux Networx which includes Intel EM64T processors linked to Nvidia FX3400 high end graphics cards.

The cluster will be used for visualizing data produced by the simulation facilities of software such as Chromium, CEI Insight and VTK, Linux Networx said.

Each node provides 16GB of storage and uses cluster management tools from the firm. The reason that AWE chose this type of system was price and performance, the firm said.
