StormWorm exploits weather fears

Trojan is blowing in the wind
Friday, 19 January 2007, 16:03
MALWARE WRITERS might be dangerous spods lacking in friends and social skills and with a tendency to shrivel up when moved more than a metre away from computers, but the blighters might be getting better at playing on users' fears.

Today's big Storm Worm attack makes use of the atrocious weather with a subject line that reads: "230 dead as storms batter Europe".

F-Secure said Storm Worm is just an alias of Small.DAM but the lure is unusual in that the authors responded very quickly to a hot news event rather than using the usual baits of sex, celebrity and other puerile appeals. ยต
