The cuts, slated for the 5th of August, are on first and second generation Opterons, as part of an AMD plan to "cascade", as Intel describes it, recent and forthcoming introductions.
The price cuts will be on the 200 and 2200 series and on the 800 and 8200 series. The 200 series will exhibit cuts ranging from between 20% to 33%, while 2200 series chips will drop from between 10 per cent to a third too.
There's a similar pattern for the 8200 and 800 series Opterons, with cuts on these prices of around a quarter to a third.
So there's no peace in the wicked war between AMD and Intel. Instead Intel and AMD appear to be playing football between the trenches for a couple of weeks before the officers order the troops to obey the whistle and throw themselves into a renewed and even more frenzied battle. ยต
