Bill Gates carpeted after night on the tiles
BILL GATES' post Microsoft plans are taking shape. Tired of windows, he's concentrating on floors and moving from software to soft furnishings.
Gates' personal investment company, Cascade Investment, has bought a three per cent stake in Carpetright, a UK laminate flooring and carpet manufacturer.
Although the investment cost a cool £15 million, the Daily Torygraph points out that Bill is rich enough to have bought the entire company should he have felt the urge. Fifty times.
Rather than falling through the floor, as many analysts predicted, shares in Carpetright rose nearly three per cent on the news.
Through Cascade, Bill also owns bits of a Mexican brewery, the Canadian National Railway and PlanetOut, a gay and lesbian media and entertainment business. µ
