MOVING AWAY from its normal server and workstation focus, Penguin Computing said it has introduced a desktop tower model using the Pentium 4 processor.

The-niveus-1xThe firm said the Niveus 1X, which costs $1,249 and uses a 2.4GHz P4/533, an 80GB hard drive, 256MB of PC2100 (double data rate) memory, an 8X DVD ROM, and a 17-inch monitor, as well as Ethernet, keyboard and mouse, is a result of requests for a low end tower platform. A maximum of 2GB of memory can be installed and the machine uses the Intel 845E chipset.

Penguin claimed that there will be more growth on the desktop for Linux OS based systems that can connect with existing servers using the same operating system. This particular system comes with Red Hat Linux but application software isn't bundled.

It has a two year warranty. µ
