Don't wait for Microsoft to fix zero day flaw

Look outside for patch
Tue Jan 03 2006, 15:35
SECURITY boffins are warning that people shouldn't wait for Vole to stop dragging its paws and come up with a fix for the zero day flaw.

Instead, security researchers at The SANS Institute's Internet Storm Center (ISC) say Windows users should download a third party patch from here. Another link is here.

It is rare that security boffins recommend outside patches to mend security holes in operating systems. Apparently ISC worked over the weekend to validate and improve an unofficial patch developed by Ilfak Guilfanov to fix the WMF problem.

They say it works and doesn't do anything else harmful to the operating system.
