We're seeing a sort of Wal-Martisation of this world - Pundit on BBC Radio 4
AS IF THE WORLD NEEDED another reason to dislike Vista, The Vole has apparently designed an operating system which makes life hellish for solid state drive (SSD) manufacturers. Indeed, Vista is not yet properly optimised for SSDs that utilise multi level cell (MLC) technology.
Sandisk found this out this little-known fact the hard way. The SSD heavyweight was forced to delay deliveries of at least three new devices until 2009 because it did not “fully understand the limitations [of] the Vista environment.”
The new drives are expected to have capacities ranging between 128, 160 and 256 GB.
According to Sandisk Chairman and CEO Eli Harari, Windows Vista presents a unique challenge for solid state drive makers.
“Vista is not optimized for flash memory solid state disks [and] the next generation controllers need to basically compensate for Vista shortfalls.” µ
Who is using vista anyway ?

ayeh!

vista sucks..

ask Charlie to start his hate speech..
Q : What do 99.99999% of systems use for storage?
A : Hard disks

Vista being optimised for hard disk storage rather than SSDs is Microsoft's problem? Pull the other one..
Ok, maybe not just SSDs but all the new upcoming memory devices of which there seem to be a dozen or so as well. Efficient access to storage of any type is one the central jobs of the operating system. Torvalds has said developing a file system for SSDs should be a huge priority.

Following Ultie Thread, I Note that Drashek mentions year ago, set your Sata II to maximum speed, 3 Ghz/s & set internal mechanism to lowest setting, ~8 Mhz/s or BAM, BSOD(often). Thats HDD, & Ultimate was just NOT some weakie, public has been lead to believe. Its Raw Size Needs Power & that takes time to engineer.

So with SSD, Ripping thru files at enormous speed to output trickle of files is still Needed Raport.Vista Needs HARDWARE & SSD is Pressed to Make Changes or juse.

Controllers? Faster & Faster, in compliance with Ultimates potential output Demands. SSD? Faster & Faster with Stable output in NEW Controlled enviorment.
No SSD Will win at Low Speed Read/Write, Yet No SSD Will Ultienize with Incredible Speed-Unless SSD Has New Much,Much Faster Controllers to Feed To.

Right Now its like Sherva with three Arms in Cast, its Blonks & Bumps Due to Handicapped by Last Gen Magician Stuff. ALL NEW STUFF Is NEEDED for SSD (especially chipset controllers), then real capable numbers up into gigabyte(s) of thruput start to make Computing Look Like Tomorrows Pro Sport.

Don't forget the SATA & PATA interface was optimized for disk based devices.

ONFI will be a major player in laptops in the years to come.

So if Vista isn't optimized for SSD, then that means XP is optimized for SSD? WTF? Someone explain?
