Harry Potter won't give Amazon happy ending

Warlock popularity causes pricing deadlock
Friday, 15 June 2007, 18:58
AMAZON.COM boss Jeff Bezos has revealed that the final instalment of the Harry Potter series won't be able to magic up a ton of profit for his company.

At a meeting for shareholders, Bezos said that although the online giant will shift tons of the whimsical tomes, they will not generate a surplus, thanks to intense competition that drives cost-cutting whenever the latest HP arrives.

Of course, the final book in the Potter franchise is a cast-iron safe bet to move in its squillions, even before it arrives on 21 July. Over one million advance orders have already been placed for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, as readers young and old tune in to find out details of the tragic demise of the young warlock at the hands of a gang of muggles.

Sorry, didn't mean to give away the ending. µ
